Filipino in Hongkong Advised to be Alerted against H3N2 flu
All travellers and all Filipino working in Hongkong advised to take precautions and be alerted against the widespread of flu epidemic H3N2. The said mutated influenza broke out last January 2, and is already claims 145 lives and the number is still raising over 220 cases in Hongkong.
According to Philippines Consulate General in Hongkong (PCGH), "Influenza (flu) is an acute illness of the respiratory tract caused by influenza viruses. It is usually more common in periods from January to March and from July to August in Hong Kong"."The winter's dominant virus strain is a mutated variant of H3N2" it added.
According to Yuen Kwok-Yung, one of the professor from the University of Hongkong, “The proportion of patients admitted to the ICU with severe influenza is high, but is not extraordinarily high when compared with past 10 or 20 years,”.
They need to protect people specially this upcoming Chinese New Year holidays where thousand of people are coming to celebrate the festival. Some health experts says that the flu is under control.
According to Dr. ko Wing-man, Secretary for Food and Health for Hongkong, a Pharmaceutical company is agreed to supply Swiss H3N2 flu vaccines to Hong Kong but not until this April.
The PCGH also said that they will monitor the situation and advices all Filipinos out there to check the CHP webpage www.chp.gov.hk or call its hotline at 2125-1111, if there is anything to report.
